Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball squad held its first-ever Golf Scramble earlier this summer with successful results at Pilgrim's Run Golf Club in Pierson, Mich.

The event, which served as a fundraiser for the program, provided an opportunity for the women's basketball squad to thank donors and friends for their support. The outing included family, friends, fans along with current and former players and coaches.

Pilgrim's Run, regarded as one of West Michigan's finest upscale public golf facilities, was built on over 400 acres and bears the hallmark of premier design and construction. Both door prizes and raffle items were also given away during the four-person, 18-hole scramble.

"It was a successful first outing for our program and we thank all those supporters who took part in the event," said FSU Assistant Coach Shea Mead, who organized the outing. "We'd also like to thank the staff at Pilgrim's Run for their tremendous efforts. It was a beautiful day and a lot of fun."

Winners from the outing included the men's team of Pat Mead, Tim James, Joe Mead and Paul Longo. Meanwhile, the squad of Dena Droste, LeAnn Droste, Carol Rademacher and Deb Katcher placed first in the women's field with the quartet of Kara Hess, Karen Hess, Roger Hess and Jake Hess winning the co-ed division.

The Bulldog women's basketball team won four of its final five games during the 2013-14 campaign under second-year head coach Colleen Lamoreaux-Tate. Ferris State also finished with a double-digit victory total for the 17th time in the last 18 seasons.

FSU will open its 2014-15 campaign in November.
