Ferris State Women's Basketball Stays Unbeaten With Win To Wrap-Up Pops Duncan Classic

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball team stayed unbeaten as the Bulldogs won their second-straight game to open the 2014-15 campaign with a 68-60 win over Trevecca Nazarene University on Saturday (Nov. 22) at the Pops Duncan Classic in Nashville, Tenn.

FSU jumped out to a 34-27 halftime lead and stayed in front of the hosts to wrap up the two-day event. Ferris State outscored Trevecca Nazarene 34-33 in the final half.

Senior forward Ashley Rando led the Bulldogs with 14 points in the win while junior center Christina Branch tallied 13 points and 16 boards in the triumph. FSU also received 10 points from sophomore guard Ally Christman as three players reached double-digit scoring.

FSU shot 44.2% from the floor and made five-of-11 (45.5%) three's along with 17-of-24 (70.8%) free throws in earning the victory.

Sarah Raby paced Trevecca Nazarene with 13 points and Kaci Britt Bell totaled 12 points in the setback for the host school.

Ferris State limited Trevecca Nazarene to only 27.6% shooting for the game and a seven-of-32 (21.9%) showing beyond the three-point stripe along with 11-of-17 (64.7%) at the foul line.

The Bulldogs also performed well on the boards with a 50-41 rebounding margin, which included nine offensive rebounds. Along with Branch's 16 on the glass, FSU also received nine from senior center Hannah Hoffman and five each from forward Kara Hess along with Rando.

FSU turned the ball over 28 times to only 14 for Trevecca Nazarene, but still managed to come away with the win.

Ferris State netted 14 assists, seven steals and four blocked shots compared to 12 assists, 13 steals and a single block for the opposition.

The Bulldogs will continue their season-opening three-game road swing by facing regional foe Cedarville (Ohio) on Tuesday night (Nov. 25) in Cedarville, Ohio. FSU then returns home to host Tiffin in its 2014-15 home and GLIAC opener on Sunday (Nov. 30) at 1 p.m. (ET) inside Jim Wink Arena.
