Ferris State Women's Basketball Completes Weekend Sweep By Beating Tiffin

Tiffin, Ohio. - The Ferris State University women's basketball squad kept its momentum going as the Bulldogs pulled away late for a 55-46 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) road win over the Tiffin Dragons on Sunday (Dec. 13) at the Gillmor Center in Tiffin, Ohio.

The win was the second-straight for FSU as the Bulldogs completed a weekend road sweep in the GLIAC to move to 2-2 in conference play.

The contest came on the heels of FSU's 69-66 league road win over Ohio Dominican on Friday night in which FSU beat the Panthers in Delaware, Ohio, for their first victory of the season. ODU had entered the contest with a 6-1 overall record this year.

In Sunday's win over the Dragons, the Bulldogs trailed 32-26 at halftime, but responded with a big second half. FSU outscored the Dragons 16-6 in the third frame and then 13-8 in the final quarter to account for the margin.

Freshman guard Margo Brown led FSU with 11 points off the bench while sophomore guard Hannah Evo had 10 points and also grabbed six rebounds with six assists. Sophomore center Rachel McInerney chipped in 10 points and five boards as well.

Ferris State shot 53.7% for the game and limited TU to only 30.2% shooting. The Bulldgos hit four-of-nine three's and also seven-of-11 free throws compared to Tiffin's seven-of-22 (32%) figure beyond the arc and seven-of-nine effort at the charity stripe.

The Dragons were paced by Ali Schirmer, who had a game-high 16 points. Bre Nauman added nine points in the setback for TU, which dropped to 2-6 overall and 0-4 in conference action.

FSU received big production with its bench as the Bulldogs owned a 21-9 margin in scoring from their reserves. The Dragons did manage to outscore the Bulldogs 13-4 in points off turnovers despite having 16 misuces to FSU's 15 overall.

Tiffin held a slim 30-28 rebound edge and totaled six second chance points to one for FSU with 12 offensive boards compared to only three for the Bulldogs. However, both teams netted six steals and the Bulldogs dished out 18 assists, including six apiece from Evo and freshman forward Abby Nakfoor, to only 11 for the hosts.

The game was close much of the way with the score tied three times and the lead changing hands three different times. The Dragons led late in the first half by eight points, but FSU eventually clawed back for the victory.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 19-20, as they take part in the Bellarmine Classic at Louisville, Ky. FSU faces the host Knights on Saturday at 3 p.m. (ET) before meeting Southern Indiana on Sunday in a 1 p.m. (ET) tilt, which will be the Bulldogs' final game of the 2015 calendar year.

Ferris State opens the New Year back at home in league action on Jan. 2-3 against Findlay and Wayne State, respectively, at FSU's Jim Wink Arena. Both games are slated for 1 p.m. (ET) starts.
