Big Start Too Much As Michigan Tech Holds Off Ferris State In Women's Action

Big Rapids, Mich. - Host Michigan Tech proved to be too much for the Ferris State women's basketball squad as the Huskies posted a 74-53 triumph over the Bulldogs on Thursday (Feb. 4) night in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action in Houghton.

The Huskies jumped out to a 21-12 first-quarter lead and posted a big third quarter en route to the win. FSU outscored MTU 16-11 in the final frame but it was not enough in the setback.

Senior forward Alexis Huntey led FSU with 14 points and seven rebounds while sophomore center Rachel McInerney added 13 points and eight boards.

Four Michigan Tech players reach double-figure scoring. Lindsay Winter paced MTU with a game-high 22 points while Kylie Moxley chipped in 18 points, Elisa Jurmu tallied 12 points and Morgan Anderson scored 10 points.

The Bulldogs were limited to 38.5% shooting overall and hit two-of-four (50%) three's along with 11-of-16 (69%) free throws. MTU shot 42% from the floor and was seven-of-18 (39%) from three-point range to go with 15-of-18 (83.3%) at the stripe.

Ferris State turned the ball over 18 times to only eight for Michigan Tech, which gave the Huskies a 25-6 margin in points off turnovers. They also outrebounded FSU 37-34 for the night and tallied 12 offensive boards along with a 11-2 margin in second chance production.

Michigan Tech finished with 14 assists, 12 steals and 11 blocks compared to FSU's 14 assists, four steals and two blocks. The Huskies never trailed in the game.

Ferris State wraps up its trip to Michigan's Upper Peninsula on Saturday (Feb. 6) against Northern Michigan at the Berry Events Center in Marquette. Tipoff is set for 11 a.m. (ET).
