Ferris State Grabs Halftime Lead Before Falling In GLIAC Play At Lake Erie

Painesville, Ohio - The Ferris State University women's basketball team had a strong first half, but ultimately fell 79-63 to the Lake Erie Storm on Thursday (Jan. 5) evening as FSU resumed Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play on the road at the Osborne Center in Painesville, Ohio.

Sophomore forward Riley Blair led Ferris State with 25 points while junior forward Rachel McInerney chipped in 13 points and nine rebounds.

The Bulldogs shot 60 percent from the floor in the first quarter and subsequently 44 percent in the second quarter as they held a 33-32 edge over the Storm at intermission.

Lake Erie came alive in the third quarter, outscoring Ferris State 27-16, which included going 5-of-5 from beyond the arc and creating the largest scoring differential in any quarter in the game.

Gabor netted 19 points in the third quarter alone, going 3-of-3 from three-point land for the Lake Erie Storm. The GLIAC's leading scorer, Gabor finished with a game-high 33 points.

Brianna Shagovac added 14 points for Lake Erie while Josie Chaddock netted 10 fo the Storm.
Defensively, Christine Dawson finished with five steals to lead Lake Erie.

On the glass for Ferris State, sophomore guard Alexis Bush tied McInerney with nine rebounds to lead the game. Blair and freshman guard Renee Sturm each added seven rebounds apiece for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs won the rebounding battle 30-22 as Dawson finished with eight rebounds to lead the Storm.

Ferris State next heads north over the bridge to take on the Lake Superior State Lakers on Thursday, Jan. 12, starting at 5:30 p.m. (ET) in Sault Ste. Marie. FSU then returns home to host the Northwood Timberwolves on Saturday, Jan. 14, in a 1 p.m. (ET) league home game at Wink Arena.
