Bulldog Women's Basketball Drops Opening Game Of Upper Peninsula Swing

Marquette, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball squad could not get untracked on Thursday (Jan. 26) night as the Bulldogs suffered a 66-42 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) setback to the Northern Michigan Wildcats inside NMU's Berry Events Center in Marquette.

The Wildcats used a 21-8 second quarter advantage to take control and held on in the second half to beat FSU, which was coming off a three-point home win over Wayne State last Saturday.

The Bulldogs opened a three-game road swing against the Wildcats and had only one player in double-figures in junior center Rachel McInerney, who finished with a team-high 10 points. Redshirt freshman guard Riley Blair added eight points.

NMU was led by both Bre Gaspervich and Darby Youngstrom with 16 points each.

The Bulldogs shot 34.5% from the floor and went 0-of-8 from three-point range along with four-of-eight (50%) at the line.

Northern Michigan had a decided edge at the charity stripe as the Wildcats sank 21-of-27 (77.8%) tries. They shot 38.5% overall and were five-of-19 (26%) from three-point range.

Ferris State will visit Michigan Tech on Saturday (Jan. 28) for a 1 p.m. (ET) league tip in Houghton. The Bulldogs then head to archrival Grand Valley State on Monday (Jan. 30) night.
