Bulldog Women's Basketball Battles First-Place Huskies On Road In GLIAC North Setback

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball squad battled division-leading Michigan Tech in a hard-fought Saturday (Jan. 28) afternoon tilt before the Huskies prevailed in the end by a 70-56 count at home inside MTU's Student Development Complex Gymansium in Houghton.

The Bulldogs trailed by as many as 16 points with nine minutes to play, but trimmed the contest down to a two-possesion game in the closing minutes before Michigan Tech hit several key late free throws to extend the final margin.

Ferris State got 14 points from junior center Rachel McInerney along with 11 by redshirt freshman guard Riley Blair in the setback as the Bulldogs wrapped up their two-game trip to Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

The Huskies shot 43% from the floor and made eight-of-22 (36.4%) three's in addition to 16-of-17 (94.1%) free throws.

Ferris State also converted at a 43% figure, but went two-of-six (33.3%) from downtown and 12-of-14 (85.7%) at the line.

The Huskies received a game-high 18 points from Morgan Anderson along with 16 from Elizabeth Kelliher and 11 by Lindsay Winter.

Michigan Tech owned a slim 23-19 edge in points off turnovers as FSU finished with 20 in the game to 17 for the Huskies, who improved to 14-4 overall and 10-3 in the GLIAc standings.

MTU also slightly outrebounded Ferris State 29-28 and held a 9-4 margin in second chance production with nine offensive caroms to eight for the Bulldogs.

Ferris State posted 10 assists, eight steals and four blocked shots in comparison to Michigan Tech's 16 assists, nine steals and eight swats overall.

The Bulldogs fell behind 22-13 after the opening quarter, but did outscore Michigan Tech 15-12 in the second frame. MTU registered a 16-8 advantage in the third before both teams tallied 20 points in the final stanza.

Ferris State will complete a three-game road swing by visiting rival Grand Valley State on Monday (Jan. 30) night for a 6 p.m. (ET) league tilt in Allendale. Following Monday's game, FSU plays five of its last seven outings at home inside Jim Wink Arena.
