Bulldogs Take Northwood To The Wire In Final Road Game Of The Season

Midland, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball squad gave host Northwood all it could handle on Saturday (Feb. 11) night in the Bulldogs' final road game of the year, but came up a little short in a 75-70 setback at Riepma Arena in Midland.

Northwood took a 23-14 lead after the opening quarter before FSU outscored the Timberwolves in the two middle periods. Ferris State eventually grabbed the lead with just under nine minutes remaining in the final period, but NU surged back in front and used some key free throws down the stretch to pull out the win.

Overall, Northwood shot 25-of-32 (78%) at the line while FSU went 12-of-16 (75%) in the road setback. The Timberwolves also hit on 10-of-23 (44%) three's and outrebounded the Bulldogs 42-29 in the win.

Ferris State kept the game close with a decided 44-20 edge inside the paint  and the Bulldogs also forced 18 turnovers, which led to a 19-18 margin in points off turnovers.

Redshirt freshman guard Riley Blair paced the Bulldogs with a game-high 19 points, including 17 in the second half. The Bulldogs also received 17 points from junior center Rachel McInerney along with 16 from junior guard Leah Humes.

Meanwhile, Northwood also had three reach double-figure scoring with both Jordyn Nurenberg and Lindsay Orwat totaling 15 points each. Taylor Craymer added 11 points off the bench.

Ferris State shot 49% from the floor for the game with NU finishing at 34.5% overall. The Timberwolves managed to shoot only 22% in the fourth quarter, but hit 12-of-15 (80%) free throws in the final 10 minutes to garner the victory.

The Bulldogs finished with 18 turnovers and compiled seven steals, six assists and four blocks to Northwood's 14 assists, 11 steals and three blocks.

Overall, the game was tied four times and featured three lead changes.

Ferris State will play its final three games of the regular-season at home inside Wink Arena. FSU hosts Northern Michigan in its next action on Thursday (Feb. 16) starting at 6 p.m. (ET).
