Ferris State Women's Basketball Rallies For Comeback Victory In Overtime To Stay Unbeaten

Big Rapids, Mich. – The Ferris State University women's basketball team posted a thrilling comeback victory in overtime over the Hillsdale College Chargers 82-78 in non-league action on Sunday (Nov. 19) at Jim Wink Arena to remain undefeated and move to 4-0 on the season.

Senior forward Rachel McInerney hit several big shots down the stretch and finished with 19 points to go with 15 rebounds and seven steals to lead Ferris State while fellow senior and guard Leah Humes scored 13 of her 19 points in the last 25 minutes for the Bulldogs.

Ferris State trailed by as many as 10 points in the fourth quarter, but put on a late run to climb back into the game. The Bulldogs whittled the Charger lead down to 72-69 with 20 seconds to play and junior guard Alexis Bush knocked down a triple to tie the game and force overtime on FSU's final offensive possession before Ferris State came up with a critical late stop.

In the overtime period, the Chargers got out to a slim lead, but redshirt sophomore forward Riley Blair gave the Bulldogs an 80-78 advantage before Humes stole the ball on the defensive end and converted a layup on the final possession to ice the triumph.

The Bulldogs outscored the Chargers 59-46 in the second half and overtime to erase a nine-point halftime deficit.

Ferris State distributed the ball well as all five starters had two or more assists. Both McInerney and Bush each earned four while freshman guard Shaniya Huggins finished with four as well.

Hillsdale got 29 points from Allie Dittmer to go with 12 rebounds for a double-double of her own while the Chargers won the battle on the glass, out-rebounding the Bulldogs 51-41 for the game.

Ferris State, though, forced 31 Hillsdale turnovers and tallied 21 steals to Hillsdale's eight, including 10 in the second half and overtime. 

The Bulldogs outscired Hillsdale 19-14 in second chance production and 38-34 in the paint behind the play of McInerney. Overall, Hillsdale led for more than 39 minutes in the game, which featured only a single lead change.

With the victory, Ferris State starts a perfect 4-0 and sets up to host Wisconsin-Parkside on Wednesday (Nov. 22) at 5:30 p.m. (ET) in another regional contest at Wink Arena.
