Ferris State Uses Big Second Half To Claim Victory In GLIAC Opener Against Tiffin

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball squad continued its impressive start to the 2017-18 campaign as the Bulldogs began Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play with a 82-62 victory over the Tiffin Dragons on Thursday (Nov. 30) night inside FSU's Jim Wink Arena.

The Bulldogs fell behind by 11 points in the second quarter, but rallied for a convincing win while outscoring Tiffin 50-25 over the final 20 minutes of action.

Freshman guard Kelsey Wyman had a big game for the Bulldogs with a contest-high 19 points, six rebounds and two steals in the triumph.

Additionally, senior center Rachel McInerney added 15 points, eight rebounds, six assists and six steals in an all-around effort for Ferris State.

The Bulldogs also got 10 points apiece from both sophomore Riley Blair and freshman Adrienne Anderson as well as nine points from junior guard Alexis Bush.

Ferris State shot 60% from the floor in the final quarter and limited Tiffin to only 20% shooting in the last frame while outscoring the Dragons 25-10 over the final 10 minutes.

Overall, FSU shot 44.6% for the night and hit five-of-10 (50%) three's along with 19-of-28 (67.9%) free throws.

The Dragons finished shooting at a 43.4% clip and were eight-of-18 (44.4%) from long range in addition to making all eight of their free throw tries.

The Bulldogs held a decided advantage on the glass as they outrebounded Tiffin 43-27 and pulled down 18 offensive boards to only five for the visitors, which led to a 16-7 edge in second chance production.

Ferris State also used its defensive pressure to force 27 turnovers and tallied a 37-20 margin in points off turnovers while coming up with 14 steals on the defensive end.

Tiffin was led by Allie Miller's 14 points and Ali Schirmer added 13 points in the setback.

Ferris State improved to 6-1 overall with the victory while TU fell to 2-4 on the year.

The Bulldogs wrap up a six-game homestand on Saturday (Dec. 2) as they host nationally top-ranked and defending national champion Ashland starting at 7 p.m. (ET) inside Wink Arena.
