Late Rally Falls Short For Bulldog Women's Basketball At Northwood

Midland, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball squad rallied back down the stretch, but came up on the short end of a 80-76 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) road decision against the Northwood Timberwolves on Thursday (Dec. 7) night in Midland.

FSU fell behind early as the Timberwolves got off to a quick start and the lead grew to as many as 21 points in the third period before the Bulldogs rallied and cut the margin down to a single basket down the stretch. However, NU hit several key free throws in the closing minute to hold on for the win.

The Bulldogs were led by senior center Rachel McInerney, who finished with a team-high 22 points. Senior guard Leah Humes added 16 points in the setback.

NU led 30-17 after the opening period and took a 15-point halftime edge, but FSU managed to outscore the Timberwolves 40-29 over the final two quarters of action.

Overall, FSU shot 46% from the floor and made 19-of-25 (76%) free throws along with three-of-eight (37.5%) three's. Meanwhile, NU finished shooting 45% for the night and hit 11-of-31 (35.5%) from long range in addition to 17-of-22 (77.3%) free throws.

The Timberwolves were led by Maddy Seeley, who finished with a game-high 29 points and made seven three's. The Timberwolves also got 16 points from Lindsay Orwat along with 12 from Grace German and 10 by Karli Herrington.

Ferris State forced 18 turnovers, but the Bulldogs were outrebounded 39-28 for the night in falling to 6-3 overall and 1-2 in the GLIAC. Northwood improved to 5-3 overall with the win.

Ferris State will visit Saginaw Valley State on Saturday (Dec. 9) for a 4 p.m. (ET) league tilt in University Center as FSU continues its four-game road stretch.
