Big First Half Gives #17 Michigan Tech Home Victory Over FSU

Houghton, Mich. - A strong second quarter lifted the nationally 17th-ranked Michigan Tech Huskies to a 80-63 victory over the Ferris State University women's basketball squad on Thursday (Feb. 15) night in Houghton.

The Bulldogs fought back in the second half and outscored MTU 20-12 in the final quarter, but a 33-17 deficit in the second quarter proved to be too much to overcome.

Ferris State got a game-high 30 points and 10 rebounds from senior center Rachel McInerney along with 11 points from senior guard Leah Humes in the setback.

Meanwhile, MTU placed four players in double-digits with Elizabeth Kelliher pacing the Huskies with 16 points. Kelli Guy added 15 points, Michelle LaFave totaled 12 points, Hannah Stoll chipped in 11 points and Hannah Hobson notched 10 points.

FSU shot 43.9% overall, but went 0-of-7 from downtown and 13-of-21 (61.9%) at the line.

Michigan Tech finished shooting 51% overall and made nine-of-18 (50%) three's along with 13-of-15 (86.7%) tries at the stripe.

The Bulldogs were outrebounded 38-28 for the game, but did force 17 Michigan Tech turnovers in the loss.

With the setback, FSU dropped to 13-12 overall on the year.

Ferris State wraps up its four-game road stretch with a key league outing on Saturday (Feb. 17) against Northern Michigan Wildcats in Marquette. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. (ET).
