Ferris State Races To Season-Opening Women's Basketball Victory

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball squad opened the 2018-19 season in impressive fashion on Friday (Nov. 9) as FSU raced to a decisive 80-55 triumph over Davis & Elkins inside FSU's Jim Wink Arena.

In the GLIAC/GMAC Crossover matchup, the Bulldogs took a slim 21-17 lead after the opening period, but outscored the Senators 24-8 in the second period to take control. FSU put Davis & Elkins away with a 23-16 edge in the third to open the year 1-0 on the season.

Senior guard Alexis Bush led the way for FSU with a team-high 15 points while sophomore guard Adrienne Anderson added 11 points in the triumph. FSU also got 11 points off the bench from junior guard Riley Blair along with nine by redshirt freshman guard Kelsey Wyman.

FSU shot 51% from the floor and hit four-of-11 (36.4%) three's along with eight-of-15 (53.3%) free throws.

The Bulldogs controlled the glass with a 42-35 rebounding margin and limited the Senators to only 31% shooting for the afternoon. Davis & Elkins finished five-of-19 (23%) from long range, but went 14-of-18 (77.8%) at the line.

Ferris State also forced 24 turnovers in the contest and came away with 14 steals, including five from Anderson and four by Wyman. The trio of Anderson, Bush and junior Renee Sturm each had four assists. Bush grabbed seven rebounds and Brayenne Benner had six for the Bulldogs.

FSU will continue action at home on Saturday (Nov. 10) as the Bulldogs host Ursuline in day two regional action starting at 3 p.m. (ET). The contest will follow the opening game at 1 p.m. (ET) between Michigan Tech and Davis & Elkins.
