Ferris State Wins High-Scoring Regional Road Tilt At Hillsdale

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball squad hit the road on Monday (Nov. 19) night and used a big second-quarter run to beat Hillsdale 91-77 in regional action at Dawn Tibbetts Potter Arena.

The Bulldogs started quick before Hillsdale took a 27-18 lead after the first period. However, FSU tallied 39 points in the second frame to take control.

Ferris State led 57-45 at halftime, but HC eventually cut the margin back to two with just over eight minutes to play before a late Bulldog run allowed them to seize the win.

Overall, Hillsdale won the first and third quarters, however Ferris State held a commanding edge in the second and fourth periods en route to the win.

With the triumph, FSU improved to 3-1 overall this season while Hillsdale dropped to 0-3 after yet another hard-fought regional setback.

All five Bulldog starters scored in double-digits with sophomore guard Shaniya Huggins netting a team-high 19 points. Sophomore guard Adrienne Anderson added 16 points with senior guard Alexis Bush totaling 13 points, junior forward Lilly George notching 12 points and junior center Brayene Benner coming up with 10 points.

The Bulldogs used their defensive pressure to force 26 turnovers, which allowed them to come up with 18 steals along with several easy baskets. Bush had five steals while both Anderson and George added four apice.

Overall, FSU shot 44% from the floor and went seven-of-12 (58%) from long range in addition to an impressive 24-of-27 (88.9%) at the line.

Ferris State held a 37-33 rebounding margin and pulled down 18 offensive caroms in the win. George led the way with six offensive boards and 10 total in the victory.

Hillsdale was led by Lauren Daffenberg off the bench with a game-high 23 points. Grace Touchette added 15 points and Brittany Gray scored 14 points. The Chargers hit on 54% of their field goals and were eight-of-25 (32%) from three-point range in addition to 11-of-16 (68.8%) at the line.

Ferris State will next visit Lewis (Ill.) on Sunday (Nov. 25) for a 2 p.m. (ET) non-league regional tilt in Romeoville, Ill.
