Bulldog Women Battle Ashland To Finish In D2 National Showcase Setback

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball team fell 91-79 to the nationally 11th-ranked Ashland Eagles in a closely contested Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) nationally-televised matchup on Thursday (Feb. 7) evening at Wink Arena.

Ferris State senior guard Alexis Bush shot 60 percent from beyond the arc and finished with 22 points and seven rebounds while sophomore guard Shaniya Huggins went for a double-double on 13 points and 10 assists. Junior forward Brayene Benner had 10 rebounds and blocked three shots in the game as well.

Off the bench, freshman forward Jaylnn Brumfield picked up 11 points to go with a blocked shot.

The Bulldogs held the dangerous Eagles' three-point attack to 27.8 percent and headed into the fourth quarter down only seven points after a 23-22 Bulldog advantage in the third frame.

For Ashland, Jodi Johnson finished with 30 points and 12 rebounds while Sara Loomis finished with 13 points and 17 rebounds.

The Eagles won the battle at the glass, outrebounding the Bulldogs 51-33 on the night.

Ferris State did shoot 41.7 percent from beyond the arc, outpacing the Eagles, but allowed 22 points on free throws to Ashland on 27 attempts. Ferris State took 17 shots from the line and hit 12 on the night.

The Bulldogs, now 11-9 overall and 8-6 in conference play, fell to 8-1 inside Wink Arena this season.

Ferris State will host the Wayne State Warriors on Saturday (Feb. 9) with tipoff set for 1 p.m. (ET) in Big Rapids.
