Ferris State Suffers Senior Day Setback To Michigan Tech In GLIAC Play

Big Rapids, Mich. – The Ferris State University women's basketball team fell 67-49 to the Michigan Tech Huskies on Saturday (Feb. 16) inside Jim Wink Arena.

The Bulldogs battled hard and trailed by only one after the first quarter. FSU then equaled the Huskies in third quarter scoring (17-17) and fourth quarter scoring (14-14). However, the Huskies took advantage and pulled away with a 25-8 second frame, which proved to be the difference.

For Ferris State, junior forward Riley Blair had 17 points off the bench. Junior forward Brayene Benner chipped in 12 points with eight rebounds and a pair of steals and blocks. Sophomore guard Shaniya Huggins finished with a team-best four assists as well.

The Huskies controlled the glass 40-31 and had four starters in double-figures, led by the 20 points of Cassidy Trotter. Elli Welsh had 13 points with nine coming on three-balls.

Both teams struggled from deep as the Huskies finished 23.5 percent from downtown while the Bulldogs did not convert from deep in the game.

Ferris State's reserves outscored the Michigan Tech bench 24-5 and the Bulldogs also outscored the Huskies on the break 14-4 in the outing. The Bulldogs were held, though, to 31.6 percent shooting for the day while the Huskies shot 44.6 percent from the field.

As part of the Senior Day game, the Bulldogs honored their two seniors, guard Alexis Bush and forward Abby Nakfoor, during their final regular-season home contests.

The contest was the last home regular season tilt of the year as Ferris State finishes with three-straight games on the road, starting at Purdue Northwest Pride on Thursday (Feb. 21) in Hammond, Ind. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. (ET).
