Ferris State Secures GLIAC Tourney Berth With Road Win At Purdue Northwest

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball squad officially earned its second consecutive Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic COnference (GLIAC) Tournament bid as the Bulldogs beat Purdue Northwest 79-64 in league action on Thursday (Feb. 21) night in Hammond, Ind.

The Bulldogs built a 20-8 lead after the opening period and held off the Pride the rest of the way while improving to 12-12 overall and 9-9 in the GLIAC. With the win, FSU secured a berth in the confernece tournament and will be on the road for the league quarterfinals on Tuesday, March 5, against an opponent to be determined.

Ferris State was led by junior forward Riley Blair's team-high 18 points with both sophomore guard Adrienne Anderson and junior center Brayene Benner adding 12 poitns each. Benner had a double-double with 10 rebounds in the win.

The Bulldogs limited the Pride to only 35% shooting and forced 20 turnovers in the triumph while converting at a 49% clip from the floor. While FSU went four-of-11 (36.4%) from long range, the Bulldogs hit 19-of-25 (76%) free throws.

Purdue Northwest was led by Shae Rhonehouse's game-high 20 points. Bayley Goodman added 12 points and Molly DeValkenaere added 11 points with 10 rebounds in the setback.

Ferris State outrebounded the hosts 44-35 for the night and outscored Purdue Northwest 40-20 inside the paint while never trailing in the game. The Bulldogs also totaled 22 points on the break to only four for the Pride.

The Bulldogs finished with 17 assists and had 13 steals and six blocks and improved to 4-0 all-time against the Pride with their second win over Purdue Northwest this season.

FSU will continue its season-ending three-game road stretch by visiting Wisconsin-Parkside on Saturday (Feb. 23) for a 2 p.m. (ET) league tilt in Kenosha, Wis.
