Ferris State Women's Basketball Visits NMU For GLIAC Quarterfinal Round Tuesday

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball squad will take part in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament for the second consecutive year as the Bulldogs travel to face Northern Michigan on Tuesday (March 5) night for a league quarterfinal-round game in Marquette, Mich.

The fifth-seeded Bulldogs will square off against the fourth-seeded Wildcats at the Berry Events Center with tipoff slated for 6 p.m. (ET).

Ferris State owns a current 14-12 overall record to date this season and posted an 11-9 league record during regular-season play under head coach Kendra Faustin. The 14 wins to date assures FSU of the school's first winning campaign since the 2011-12 season when FSU last reached the NCAA Tournament.

Meanwhile, Northern Michigan heads into the quarterfinal round with a 20-8 overall mark and finished second in the GLIAC North Division with a 15-5 GLIAC ledger.

Earlier this year, Ferris State took the Wildcats to the wire in a 70-66 double-overtime setback in Big Rapids on Feb. 14 after falling to the Wildcats 53-42 on Jan. 12 in Marquette.

There will be no local radio coverage for the contest, but NMU will provide a live audio/video webcast along with live internet statistics. Fans can follow all the action with links available at FerrisStateBulldogs.com or on social media via @FerrisWBBALL on twitter and facebook.

Four quarterfinal-round games will be played on Tuesday with the winners advancing to the GLIAC Tournament Semifinals and Finals on Saturday and Sunday, March 9-10.

The other first-round matchups in the GLIAC Tournament on Wednesday include top-seeded Grand Valley State hosting eighth-seeded Wayne State, third-seeded Michigan Tech playing host to sixth-seeded Northwood along with second-seeded Ashland hosting seventh-seeded Parkside. As the number one seed, GVSU would host the GLIAC Semifinals and Finals in women's basketball next Saturday and Sunday (March 9-10) with a first-round win.

The winner of the GLIAC Tournament receives an automatic bid into the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Tournament slated to be held March 15-18 at a campus site yet to be determined.

Ferris has posted a 11-14 overall record in 15 previous league women's basketball tournament appearances and will be making its second-straight appearance in the field after making its first since the 2012-13 campaign last year. FSU has finished as the tournament runner-up three times and reached the semifinal round in eight of its 15 previous trips to the league event.

Last year, the Bulldogs upset second-seeded Michigan Tech on the road in the Upper Peninsula in the quarterfinals before falling to GVSU in the semifinal round in Ashland, Ohio.
