FSU's Shaniya Huggins Claims GLIAC North Player Of Week Honor

Big Rapids, Mich. - Sophomore guard Shaniya Huggins (Grand Rapids/Catholic Central) of the Ferris State University women's basketball squad has been tabbed as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division Player of the Week.

Huggins led the Bulldogs to a big road win over Lake Superior State to close out the regular-season on Thursday (Feb. 28) night. She tallied a game-high 18 points with six rebounds, five assists and a steal in the 69-59 triumph as FSU clinched the number five seed for the league tournament.

In the victory, Huggins shot 53 percent from the floor and hit a huge three late in the second half with the Lakers trying to rally. Her play was critical as FSU played without a starter in Riley Blair due to injury.

The victory assured FSU of the program's first winning campaign since 2011-12 as the Bulldogs notched their 14th victory of the season.

Huggins and the Bulldogs will visit Northern Michigan for the GLIAC Tournament Quarterfinals on Tuesday (March 5) evening with tipoff set for 6 p.m. (ET) inside the Berry Events Center in Marquette.
