Ferris State Rolls Past Lake Erie In Season-Opening Road Victory

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball squad opened the 2019-20 campaign in a big way as the Bulldogs rolled past Lake Erie 85-64 in non-league season opening action on Friday (Nov. 8) night in Painesville, Ohio.

The Bulldogs took a slim 22-19 lead at the first quarter break and held a five-point halftime edge before breaking the game open in the third. Ferris State outscored the Storm 29-12 over the third period en route to the win.

Senior center Brayene Benner paced the Bulldogs with a team-high 18 points while both senior wing Riley Blair and junior guard Adrienne Anderson totaled 17 points each. Off the bench, Savanah Gibson totaled nine points in the victory for FSU.

The Bulldogs shot 49% from the floor and went six-of-20 (30%) from three-point range while sinking 11-of-15 (73.3%) free throws.

Ferris State forced 21 turnovers in the game and owned a 31-27 rebounding advantage with 12 offensive caroms in the contest. The Bulldogs had only 12 turnovers of their own and compiled 13 assists and 13 steals, including five from junior guard Shaniya Huggins.

Benner added four blocks on the defensive end for Ferris State.

The Bulldogs will look for their second-straight win in Ohio to open the year as they visit Walsh on Saturday (Nov. 9) for a 5 p.m. (ET) non-league contest in Canton, Ohio.
