Tough Fourth Quarter Results In Setback For Bulldog Women's Basketball At Walsh

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball squad built a lead heading into the final period, but Walsh University rallied to notch a 89-74 win over the Bulldogs in regional action on Saturday (Nov. 9) in Canton, Ohio.

FSU outscored Walsh 23-20 in the first frame before the Cavaliers took a 38-33 halftime edge. However, FSU fought back to regain the lead with a 29-20 advantage in third quarter scoring before the hosts controlled play in the final period, outscoring the Bulldogs 31-12 for the win.

Freshman guard Mallory McCartney had a big night for the Bulldogs with a team-high 27 points. Junior guard Adrienne Anderson added 16 points with junior guard Shaniya Huggins registering eight points.

The Bulldogs shot at a 43.1% clip and hit nine-of-22 (40.9%) from long range along with nine-of-15 (60%) at the line.

Walsh shot 47% from the field and went 11-of-22 (50%) beyond the three-point stripe in addition to 14-of-20 (70%) from the charity stripe.

Ferris State held a slim 39-36 rebound margin, but FSU finished with 20 turnovers compared to only 13 for Walsh. The Bulldogs netted 12 assists and six steals in the contest.

With the loss, Ferris State wrapped up its season-opening trip to Ohio with a 1-1 mark.

The Bulldogs return home to Jim Wink Arena to begin a six-game homestand starting with the home opener on Thursday (Nov. 14) night versus Hillsdale at 5:30 p.m. (ET).
