Ferris State Earns GLIAC Road Victory Over Davenport Behind Big Third Quarter Performance

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball squad scored a big Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) road win over Davenport on Saturday (Jan. 4) as FSU registered a 85-74 triumph in a clash between West Michigan schools at the DU Student Center in Grand Rapids.

The Bulldogs broke the game open in the third quarter after the two teams finished the first half deadlocked as FSU outscored the Panthers 34-16 in the period to push the edge to 21 points at one stage.

In the fourth period, DU rallied and pulled within single digits as FSU battled thru foul trouble and injury, but the Bulldogs earned the win down the stretch to improve to 8-5 overall this year.

Ferris State junior Adrienne Anderson scored a game-high 22 points and pulled down eight rebounds with six assists in the victory.

Meanwhile, freshman guard Mallory McCartney notched 19 points while senior forward Riley Blair totaled 17 points for FSU. The Bulldogs also got nine points off the bench from junior guard Shaniya Huggins. Eight of the nine Bulldog players that saw action scored.

Overall, the Bulldogs converted at a 42.6% clip from the floor and went five-of-18 (27.8%) from long range in addition to sinking 22-of-30 (73.3%) free throws.

Davenport got 21 points from freshman Madison Jones with Jenna Falkenberg totaling 20 points on the inside. Toni Grace chipped in 14 points and Elise Scaggs netted 12 points in the setback for the Panthers, who dropped to 5-8 on the year.

The Bulldogs limited DU to only 38% shooting with the Panthers finishing six-of-23 (26.1%) from three-point range and 10-of-13 (76.9%) at the line.

While Davenport outrebounded FSU 52-43, the Bulldogs forced 19 turnovers and held a 18-12 margin in points off those turnovers. FSU's quick pace also enabled the Bulldogs to outscore DU 22-7 on the break and 44-38 inside the paint. DU received only two points off its bench compared to 15 for Ferris State.

The Bulldogs continue a five-game league road swing as they visit Northwood on Thursday, Jan. 9, for a 6 p.m. (ET) conference encounter in Midland.
