Ferris State Notches Third Consecutive GLIAC Road Victory As Impressive Play Continues

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball squad continued its impressive play on the road as the Bulldogs recorded a 82-77 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) victory over Saginaw Valley State on Sunday (Jan. 12) evening at O'Neill Arena in University Center.

The Bulldogs outscored the Cardinals by 10 points in the third quarter and built a 17-point lead early in the fourth period before holding on to garner the triumph. With the win, FSU earned its 10th victory of the year to date.

The contest, which was originally scheduled for Saturday but postponed due to inclement weather, featured 14 lead changes, including 13 in the first half as the two squads battled back-and-forth.

All five Ferris State starters reached double-figure scoring with senior forward Riley Blair notching a team-high 21 points to go with seven rebounds and four assists.

The Bulldogs also got 14 points apiece from both freshman forward Chloe Idoni and junior guard Adrienne Anderson while both senior guard Renee Sturm and freshman Mallory McCartney compiled 12 points each.

The Bulldogs shot 43.8% from the field and managed to knock down eight-of-21 (38.1%) from three-point range while finishing 18-of-20 (90%) at the free throw line.

On the glass, FSU outrebounded SVSU 43-36 for the night and the Bulldogs garnered 15 offensive boards. Ferris State also outscored the Cardinals 40-34 inside the paint, but SVSU benefited from 19 points off 13 FSU turnovers while finishing with only six miscues of its own.

The Cardinals were paced by freshman guard Kaitlyn Zarycki, who netted a game-high 28 points overall. Maddie Barrie added 12 points, Ashley Buchholz posted 11 points and Maddie Maloney compiled 10 points in the setback.

With the win, FSU improved to 10-5 on the year and 4-3 in the GLIAC with Saginaw Valley State dropping to 7-7 overall.

The victory was Ferris State's third-straight on the road in league action.

The Bulldogs wrap up their five-game conference road swing by traveling to Michigan's Upper Peninsula later this week. FSU visits Northern Michigan on Thursday (Jan. 16) for a 7:30 p.m. (ET) conference tilt in University Center before taking on Michigan Tech on Saturday (Jan. 18) afternoon in Houghton.
