Ferris State Pulls Out Overtime Triumph For Seventh Consecutive Victory

Big Rapids, Mich. - It took overtime, but the Ferris State University women's basketball team kept its win streak intact and held onto first place in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division with a 77-70 triumph over visiting Purdue Northwest on Saturday (Jan. 25) afternoon inside Jim Wink Arena.

The Bulldogs claimed their seventh-straight win, which is the program's longest since winning 10 in a row back in 2011-12, and improved to 14-5 overall and 8-3 in the GLIAC with the victory.

FSU led 20-9 at the end of the opening quarter and held an 18-point advantage at one stage just before halftime. However, the Pride rallied in the second half and eventually grabbed a two-point edge in the final minute before the Bulldogs forced overtime.

In the extra session, Ferris State took control early and outscored Purdue Northwest 12-5 to garner the win.

Junior guard Adrienne Anderson and freshman guard Mallory McCartney both had big afternoons for the Bulldogs with 24 and 22 points, respectively. McCartney added 11 rebounds and four steals in the win.

The Bulldogs also got 16 points and nine rebounds from senior forward Riley Blair in addition to 11 points, six boards, three blocks and two steals from freshman Chloe Idoni. The four players in double-figures combined to score 73 of FSU's 77 total points.

FSU shot 45% from the floor and made seven-of-18 (38.9%) three-point tries along with sinking 16-of-24 (66.7%) free throws.

Purude Northwest stayed in the game by forcing 18 FSU turnovers, leading to a 26-6 edge in points off turnovers. The Pride also got 22 points off the bench to only two for Ferris State.

Savaya Brockington led the Pride with a game-high 26 points with Molly Devalkenaere adding 16 points off the bench and Danielle Nennig posting 11 points. The Pride shot 50% from the floor and made six-of-15 (40%) three's in addition to four-of-eight (50%) tries from the free throw line.

While Purdue Northwest held the advantage in scoring off turnovers, the Bulldogs owned a 16-2 margin in second chance scoring on the strength of 13 offensive boards to only two for the guests. Overall, Ferris State outrebounded the Pride 42-23 for the game.

Although Ferris State trailed for only 20 seconds and led for more than 42 minutes in the contest, the lead did change hands four times in the game and the score was tied twice, including the end of regulation. The overtime victory was FSU's second in its past three outings.

Ferris State will be back in action on Thursday, Jan. 30, as FSU visits nationally second-ranked Ashland for a battle of the league's divisional leaders beginning at 5:30 p.m. (ET) in Ashland, Ohio.
