Second-Ranked Ashland Snaps Ferris State's Seven-Game Win Streak

Big Rapids, Mich. - Nationally second-ranked Ashland snapped Ferris State's seven-game Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) win streak on Thursday (Jan. 30) night as the Eagles pulled out a 105-74 triumph over the Bulldogs at Kates Gymansium in Ashland, Ohio.

After a back-and-forth start, the Eagles took a 24-12 margin at the end of the first quarter and then doubled the score at halftime. FSU started the second half quickly and closed the gap, but Ashland bounced back and garnered the win to move to 20-0 on the year and 12-0 in the GLIAC.

Ferris State was led by senior forward Riley Blair, who had eight points early and finished with 18 points for the Bulldogs in the loss as they fell to 14-6 overall and 8-4 in the GLIAC.

Along with Blair, the Bulldogs received 17 points from freshman guard Mallory McCartney to go with 12 points by junior guard Adrienne Anderson and 11 from freshman forward Chloe Idoni. Hannah Barnes added eight points off the bench with a pair of three-pointers for FSU.

FSU shot 46.7% from the floor and went eight-of-20 (40%) at the three-point line, but also had 18 turnovers in the setback. The Bulldogs made 10-of-15 (66.7%) free throws.

For Ashland, both Hallie Heidemann and Jodi Johnson totaled a team-high 21 points with Johnson also eclipsing the 2,000 career point mark in the game. AU's Sarah Loomis added 18 points, senior guard Renee Stimpert totaled 16 points, forward Karlee Pireu notched 15 points and Annie Roshak contributed 10 points.

The Eagles shot 54.3% from the field, including a 13-of-26 (50%) effort beyond the three-point arc. They also made 16-of-19 (84.2%) free throws and had only 10 turnovers for the night.

Ferris State will be back in action on Saturday (Feb. 1) as FSU heads to Detroit to face Wayne State starting at 1 p.m. (ET).
