Bulldogs Heat Up From Deep In Win Over Michigan Tech

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball team won its second consecutive contest and took over sole possession of first place in the division with a 79-70 Great Lakes Intercollagiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) victory over the Michigan Tech Huskies on Thursday (Feb. 13) inside Jim Wink Arena.

Ferris State junior guard Adrienne Anderson scored a game-high 24 points and hit three triples on the day to go with seven rebunds, three steals and three assists. Senior forward Riley Blair had 21 points and tied senior forward Lilly George with a game-high eight rebounds.

The Bulldogs rolled into the second quarter with a two-point edge on the Huskies, but racked up 27 points to Michigan Tech's 15 in the second frame to pull away. The Buldogs went 6-7 from beyond the arc in the second quarter (85.7 percent) as they ran ahead into the locker room up by 14 at the break. 

Ferris State finished with 14 three pointers on the night and all but two Bulldogs that played hit a three-ball in the game. Anderson and freshman guard Mallory McCartney each hit a team-best three three-point shots on the night.

Anderson totaled 20 of her game-high 24 points in the first half with Blair notching 19 of her 21 points in the second half for the Bulldogs.

Michigan Tech had three players in double-figures, led by Hannah Hobson's 17 points. Ellie Mackay had 16 points as well for MTU while Cassidy Trotter picked up 12. 

Ferris State, now 17-7 overall and 11-5 in the GLIAC, has its highest win-total since the 2011-12 team picked up 23 victories. In GLIAC play, the Bulldogs have their most conference wins since that team won 17 in league play back in 2011-12.

The Bulldogs will take on the Northern Michigan Wildcats on Saturday (Feb. 15) in another big GLIAC North Division tilt starting at 3 p.m. (ET) inside Jim Wink Arena. Fans are encouraged to wear red as part of "Red Out The Wink & The Rink" in support of Healthy Heart Month and it will also be Senior Day with FSU slated to honor its men's and women's basketball seniors between games.
