Bulldogs Fall In Final Seconds In GLIAC Quarterfinals

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball team fell 78-76 to the Wayne State Warriors in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament Quarterfinals on Tuesday (March 3) inside Wink Arena.

Ferris State carved out a late lead, but the Warriors managed a game-winning lay up with 1.8 on the clock.

In a back-and-forth affair, the lead changed hands 15 times and was tied nine, including twice in the final two minutes.

Ferris State senior forward Riley Blair had 27 points in the game, including 20 in the first half to lead all scorers in the contest. Senior guard Adrienne Anderson also had 14 points to go with four assists. 

Wayne State hit six three-pointers in the final two quarters as they heated up from deep to close the late gap. Ferris State hit five three-balls in the game, while the Warriors had nine on the night.

TThe Warriors were led in scoring by Nastassja Chambers who had 17 points. Sadia Johnson added 16 while, Alex Matus also had 14 for WSU.

Ferris State managed to win the rebounding battle 39-34. In the paint, Wayne State's Sam Cherney had a game-high five blocked shots, though the Bulldogs managed a 40-37 advantage on points in the paint for the game.

The Warriors shot 45.8 percent for the game, while the Bulldogs shot 40.6 percent from the field.

The Bulldogs, who were ranked sixth in the last NCAA Regional Rankings in the Midwest Region, now await the NCAA Selection Show on Sunday (March 8). The Bulldogs, now 21-8, are in the midst of their first 20-plus win season since the 2011-12 campaign and stand as GLIAC North Division Champions.

The top eight teams in each region earn a bid to the NCAA Tournament, with conference champions in each earning an automatic bid.
