Two FSU Women's Basketball Standouts Named All-GLIAC; Blanchard Tabbed Freshman Of Year

Big Rapids, Mich. - A pair of Ferris State University women's basketball standouts have received All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) recognition for the 2021 season as announced on Saturday by the conference office.

Bulldog freshman guard Kadyn Blanchard (Freeland) was named to the All-GLIAC First Team and also chosen as the GLIAC's Freshman of the Year while sophomore guard Mallory McCartney (Saginaw/Heritage) earned All-GLIAC Second Team laurels in addition to being tabbed to the GLIAC All-Defensive Team.

Blanchard had a standout rookie season, averaging a team-high 16.3 points per game in leading a young Bulldog squad without three key returning players all season long due to injury. Blanchard also pulled down 5.5 rebounds per game with 2.3 assists an outing for the Bulldogs. The rookie had 15 double-figure scoring performances and scored 20 points or more five times, including a season-high 39 points in a 91-89 home win over Parkside on Jan. 16. She also totaled 32 points in an 83-65 road win at Lake Superior State on Jan. 26. Blanchard also had three double-doubles on the season.

Meanwhile, McCartney directed the FSU attack from the point guard spot and finished the campaign averaging 12.6 points to go with 5.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists an outing in 19 contests. The sophomore guard totaled 13 double-figure scoring efforts and scored a season-best 38 points while making seven three's in an impressive 84-49 road win at Purdue Northwest on Feb. 20 in Hammond, Ind. McCartney was the squad's second-leading scorer while also pacing FSU in assists and steals, grabbing nearly three steals a game in her second season with the Bulldogs.

This year marked the second consecutive season in which McCartney has claimed All-GLIAC Second Team kudos.

Ferris State's 2020-21 season came to a close in the GLIAC Tournament this past week, but the Bulldogs are expected to return their full roster for next season, including three players with starting experience in their FSU careers who missed the entire campaign.
