Ferris State University women's basketball head coach Kendra Faustin announced the appointment of Michigan native Sharonda Hurd as the program's top assistant coach prior to the 2015-16 campaign. As the assistant coach, she is heavily involved with every facet of the Bulldog program and will begin her fifth year at FSU in 2019-20.

A former Central Michigan University women's basketball standout, Hurd spent the previous five seasons as the assistant coach at Olivet College, where she also served as the Comets' senior women's administrator for four years. In 2017-18, she helped lead the Bulldogs to the GLIAC Tournament Semifinals.

A member of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), Hurd played a key role in all aspects of the Olivet women's basketball program since joining the staff in 2010. Along with on-floor coaching and recruiting duties, she also coordinated individual skill instruction and assisted with scouting, film exchange, travel arrangements and more. Her efforts helped Olivet reach the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Tournament Semifinals for the second consecutive year.

In 2013-14, Hurd helped guide the Comets to a school all-time best 22-4 overall record under head coach Nicole Burford as Olivet placed second in the MIAA standings and was ranked in the D3hoops.com Top 25 poll for the first time in school history.

During her time at Olivet, Hurd helped coach and train student-athletes who achieved WBCA All-America and All-Region recognition several times. She was also selected as an assistant coach for the 2014 Champions of Character All-Star Basketball Classic and one of her former players was invited to the 2015 Women's Pro-Combine at the University of Tampa under her direction.

In her role as Olivet's Senior Women's Administrator, Hurd also managed the athletic study table program for 23 sports, coordinated grade checks and ran the Student-Athletic Advisory Board (SAAC) in addition to other duties. She also coordinated the Comets' basketball shootouts.

Hurd has also taken part in various professional development opportunities, including attending the United States Marine Corps Coaches Leadership Workshop in Virginia. She served on the search committee for a new MIAA Commissioner in 2014 and attended the NCAA Career and Regional Sports Forum in 2012.

Before arriving at Olivet, Hurd served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the women's basketball program at Earlham (Ind.) College during the 2009-10 season. Prior to that, she worked at Central Michigan University (CMU), serving as a graduate assistant for intramurals and special events/facilities in 2007-08 and then as a graduate assistant for club sports and intramurals in 2008-09. At CMU, Hurd also served as an assistant women's basketball summer camp director and sports camp counselor.

Hurd earned a bachelor's degree in sports studies from CMU in 2007 and a master's degree in sports administration from CMU in 2009. While at CMU, Hurd was a four-year letterwinner on the basketball team and served as co-captain during her senior season. As a collegian, Hurd led the Chippewas in rebounding three years and was honored as the Dee Pommerank Award recipient for Most Improved Player. She was CMU's second-leading scorer as a senior.

The Lansing Sexton prep product also competed on the United States of America Athletes International (USAAI) Basketball Tour to Europe in 2009 and later played professionally for the Flint Lady Flames after her collegiate career.

While at CMU, Hurd served on the Student-Athlete Advisory Board. She's also been active in a wide range of community service projects and is a member of the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan (BCAM).
