Women's Golf Posts Sixth-Place Finish At Findlay William Bing Beall Classic

The ninth-ranked Ferris State University women's golf team carded a 326 final-round score to finish sixth place in the Findlay William Bing Beall Classic (Sept. 28-29) at the Findlay (Ohio) Country Club.

Ferris State concluded the two-day tournament with a 667 team score (+91) and ended up trailing host Findlay for fifth place by three strokes on the par 72, 5,808-yard Findlay Country Club course.  Grand Valley State won the tournament after firing a two-round 619 score (+43) while Ashland (646, +70) and California, Pa. (652, +76) comprised the top three finishers among the 10 schools participating.

The Bulldogs improved by 15 strokes in Tuesday's (Sept. 29) final round after starting out the tournament Monday (Sept. 28) with a 341-stroke total.

Sophomore Bryce Hetchler (Clinton Township/Fraser) shot a 162 (82-80=162, +18) to finish in a three-way deadlock for 12th place honors.  Freshman Ashley Swanson (Flushing/Flint Powers Catholic Central) earned a place among the top 20 individuals as she generated a 16th-place tying 164 score (87-77=164, +20). 

Sophomore Blaize Baumgartner (Perry) recorded a 171 (86-85=171, +27) to place 29th.  Sophomore Brooke Rodes (Traverse City/West) finished five strokes behind Baumgartner with a 34th-place tying 176-stroke total (92-84=176, +32).  Fellow soph Breezy Bernth (Greenville) rounded out the team scoring for Ferris State as she tied for 44th place as a result of netting a 180 score (86-94=180, +36). 

Competing as an individual, freshman Amy Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) shot 175 (90-85=175, +31) in the two rounds to tie two others for 31st place.  

The Bulldogs will travel back to Ohio early next week, Oct. 5-6, to compete in the second annual Akron Zippy Invitational at the Rosemont Country Club in Fairlawn, Ohio.
