Women's Golf Takes Third Place At Northern Arizona Mountain Shootout

The ninth-ranked Ferris State University women's golf captured third place while two Bulldogs placed in the top 10 individually at the Northern Arizona Mountain Shootout (Sept. 21-22) in Flagstaff, Ariz.

Ferris State recorded a team score of 637 (319-318=637, +61) to earn third place as host Northern Arizona won the seven-team tournament with a first-place 628-stroke total (+52).  Utah Valley State tallied a 631 score (+55) to finish three strokes in back of Northern Arizona, which is directed by former Ferris head coach and player Brad Bedortha.  Southern Utah took home fifth-place honors by generating a two-round 638-stroke total (+62) on the Flagstaff Ranch Golf Course and concluded competition one stroke behind Ferris State.

Sophomore Blaize Baumgartner (Perry) was the highest finisher for head coach Mike Mignano's team as she tied for fifth place by firing a 12-over par 156 (75-81=156, +12).  Freshman Ashley Swanson (Flushing/Flint Powers Catholic Central) continued her consistent play with a 157 score (78-79=157, +13), which was worthy of a five-way tie for seventh place.

Joining them among the top 20 individuals was sophomore Brooke Rodes (Traverse City/West), who registered a 15th-place tying 160-stroke total (80-80=160, +16).  Fellow sophomore Bryce Hetchler (Clinton Township/Fraser) shot a 164 score (86-78=164, +20) to earn her a share of 23rd-place honors with eight other players.

Sophomore Breezy Bernth (Greenville) turned in a 179 (92-87=179, +35) to earn sole possession of 38th place.

North Dakota State's Amy Anderson shot an even-par 144 to capture medalist honors.

Ferris State will have little time to savor the third-place effort as the Bulldogs are back in action this weekend (Sept. 26-27) at the Northwood Invitational in Midland, Mich.
