Bryce Hetchler Medals In Leading Ferris State To Tourney Championship

Dominating best described in summarizing the 2010-11 Ferris State University women's golf team's performance at this weekend's (Sept. 11-12) inaugural Lake Superior State Invitational as the Bulldogs captured top team honors with a two-round 642 score at the par 72, 5,915-yard The Oaks Golf Course in Kincheloe, Mich.

FSU, under fourth-year head coach Mike Mignano, shot rounds of 316 and 326 en route to the 642 final stroke total as the Bulldogs were 29 strokes in front of runner-up Northwood (671) among the seven schools competing in the tournament.  Findlay (678) captured third place while Ohio Dominican (697) took fourth and host Lake Superior State (726) turned in a fifth-place showing.

Ferris State claimed the top three individual placings as juniors Bryce Hetchler (Clinton Township/Fraser) and Erin Fuchik (Tulsa, Okla./Bishop Kelley) finished one and two, respectively.  Hetchler claimed medalist recognition with a 12-over par 156 score (76-80=156, +12) while Fuchik registered a 158 (77-81=158, +14).  Freshman Jacqueline DeBoer (Grand Rapids/South Christian) ended up one stroke back of Fuchik by tallying a 159-stroke total (78-81=159, +15).

Junior Breezy Bernth (Greenville) shot a 173 score (85-88=173, +29) to earn an 11th-place finish.  Fellow junior Blaize Baumgartner (Perry) carded a 174 (90-84=174, +30), which proved deserving of a two-way tie for 12th-place honors.

Freshman Emily Rohdy (Farwell) turned in a noteworthy performance as a non-scoring individual as she tied for fourth place by producing a 161-stroke total (80-81=161, +17) in her second collegiate tournament.

Ferris State will be idle this upcoming weekend before getting back on the course Sept. 25-26 to participate in the Michigan State Mary Fossum Invitational at MSU's Forest Akers Golf Course in East Lansing, Mich.
