Women's Golf Winds Up 11th Place At Michigan State Mary Fossum Invitational

The Ferris State University women's golf team completed action at the Michigan State Mary Fossum Invitational this weekend (Sept. 25-26) as the Bulldogs placed 11th with a three-round 996 team score on the par 72, 6,236-yard Forest Akers West Golf Course in East Lansing, Mich.

Notre Dame was crowned tournament champions by posting an 890-stroke total (+26) to finish five strokes ahead of runner-up Kent State (895, +31).  Host Michigan State (896, +32) captured third-place honors while Iowa State (904, +40) took fourth and Long Beach State (935, +71) earnead fifth place in the 11-team tournament field which featured all NCAA Division I programs with Ferris State being the exception.

Freshman Jacqueline DeBoer (Grand Rapids/South Christian) and junior Bryce Hetchler (Clinton Township/Fraser) claimed top team honors for the Bulldogs with 245 scores apiece to tie for 54th place.  DeBoer (84-83-78=245) and Hetchler (84-79-82=245) each registered 29 stroke over par totals.

Freshman Emily Rohdy (Farwell) carded a 256-stroke total (90-76-90=256, +40) which proved worthy of a two-way 58th-place tie.  Sophomore Ashley Swanson (Flushing/Flint Powers Catholic Central) made her season debut by firing a 257 score (85-85-87=257, +41) to finish among three individuals for 60th place.

Junior Erin Fuchik (Tulsa, Okla./Bishop Kelley) rounded out the Bulldogs' scoring as she compiled a 63rd-place showing following a 258-stroke total (89-85-84=258, +42).

Ferris State continues its fall tournament action at the Grand Valley State Laker Classic this upcoming weekend (Oct. 3-4) at The Meadows Golf Course on the GVSU campus in Allendale, Mich.
