The Ferris State University women's golf team opened its 2011 spring season on a positive note as the Bulldogs captured seventh-place honors at the Northern Kentucky Invitational last Saturday (March 26) with a two-round 644-team score on the par 72, 5,819-yard Perry Park (Ky.) Golf Course.

The Bulldogs, who were among 23 teams participating in the tournament, finished 68 strokes over par and were two in back of Findlay (642, +66) for sixth place.  DePauw (Ind.) and Indianapolis both finished tied for first place by carding 624 (+48) team stroke totals.

The tournament was scheduled for two days (March 26-27) but a forecast of inclement weather moved up the 36-hole event.

Junior Erin Fuchik (Tulsa, Okla./Bishop Kelley) lead the Bulldogs with a 12th-place tying 157 score (76-81=157, +13) as she finished among a four-way tie.  Freshman Jacqueline DeBoer (Grand Rapids/South Christian) fired a 159-stroke total (80-79=159, +15) to earn a share of 18th place with six other individuals.

Junior Breezy Bernth (Greenville), who participated as non-scoring individual, would claim a 99th-place tie following a 180 score (89-91=180, +36) amongst the 129 individual who competed in the tournament.

The Bulldogs will play in the Ohio Dominican Invitational this weekend (April 2-3) at the Cumberland Golf Club in Pataskala, Ohio.
