Ferris State Claims Its Second Tournament Title This Season

Ferris State University's Emily Rohdy (Farwell) and Erin Fuchik (Tulsa, Okla./Bishop Kelley) led the Bulldog women's golf team to its second tournament title of this 2010-11 season with a first-place 643 two-round team score at this weekend's (April 2-3) Ohio Dominican Give 18 Fore Cancer Classic in Pataskala, Ohio.

Rohdy and Fuchik paved the way for Ferris State as each fired first-place tying 159 regulation scores in the 36-hole tournament.  Rohdy (83-76=159) would go on to earn individual medalist recognition after besting Fuchik (81-78=159) in a playoff on the par 72, 6,072-yard Cumberland Trail Golf Course.

Ferris State would claim six of the top 11 individual placings, including four of the top five.  Freshman Jacqueline DeBoer (Grand Rapids/South Christian) produced a 162-stroke total (79-83=162) to place fourth while junior Brooke Rodes (Traverse City/West) carded a fifth-place 163 score (78-85=163) in a non-scoring appearance to receive fifth-place honors.

Junior Bryce Hetchler (Clinton Township/Fraser) was among four players to earn a share of seventh place as she generated a 165 score (84-81=165).  Fellow junior Blaize Baumgartner (Perry) finished one stroke in back of Hetchler with a 166-stroke total (85-81=166), which proved deserving of 11th place.

Junior Cooper Shawen (Bolingbrook, Ill./Neuqua Valley) accumulated a 13th-place tying 170 (85-85=170) which didn't count toward Ferris State's team score.  Tying for 26th place as a non-scoring individual was junior Breezy Bernth (Greenville), who had a 178-stroke total (85-93-178).

In the fall, Ferris State captured the Lake Superior State Invitational (Sept. 11-12) by placing first among seven participating teams.

The Bulldogs, who are ranked sixth in the latest (March 31) NCAA Division II East Region Rankings Poll, will tee it up this Saturday (April 9) in a dual match against Grand Valley State before participating in the Detroit Titans Invitational (April 11-12) in Redford, Mich.
