Women's Golf Eighth After NCAA First Round

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team opened action in the 2012 NCAA Division II East Super Regional on Sunday (May 6) at the Findlay Country Club in Findlay, Ohio.

The Bulldogs posted a 321 score (+33) in the first day of competition and are currently eighth overall after the opening day of action.

Both Indianapolis and Ashland took the first day lead as they carded identical scores of 300 (+12) over the 18 holes of action on the par 72 course.

Senior Bryce Hetchler paced the Bulldogs on Sunday as she shot a 74, which was good for a share of seventh place on the individual leaderboard.

Sophomore Jacqueline DeBoer finished tied for 25th overall with an 80 (+8) while Brooke Rodes came in tied for 33rd at 82 (+10).

Senior Erin Fuchik and Emily Rohdy both wound up tied for 42nd overall with scores of 85 (+13) on the day.

The individual leader after the first round is Amy Thompson of Indianapolis, who recorded a two-under score of 70 for the Greyhounds.

Action continues in the super regional on Monday (May 7) before the event wraps up on Tuesday (May 8).

The Bulldogs are making their 11th consecutive regional tournament appearance.

Each super regional consists of both team and individual competition conducted concurrently with nine teams and four individuals from non-qualifying teams at each site. All participants compete throughout the 54 holes of competition. The top three teams along with the top three individuals not affiliated with a team from each super regional, will advance to the national championships.

The 2012 NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships will be held May 16-19, at Persimmon Ridge Golf Course in Louisville, Ky.
