Three Bulldogs Named All-America Scholars

Big Rapids, Mich. - Three members of the 2011-12 Ferris State University women's golf team have been tabbed as National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) All-America Scholar Team representatives, according to an announcement made by the national organization.

FSU senior Bryce Hetchler (Clinton Township/Fraser) along with sophomores Jacqueline DeBoer (Grand Rapids/South Christian) and Emily Rohdy (Farwell) earned the prestigious distinction after their efforts this past season.

The NGCA All-America Scholar Teams for Division I, II & III were announced on Monday with a total of 585 women's collegiate golfers recognized with this prestigious honor. The criteria for selection to the All-America Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50.

All three FSU golfers claimed All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Second Team recognition on the course this past season.  Hetchler claimed All-GLIAC Second Team honors for the third time in her collegiate career and was a Capital One Academic All-District IV First Team recipient.

The Bulldog senior placed among the top 20 finishers in seven tournaments this season, which included six top-20 finishes in the spring. She concluded her career placing among the top 20 finishers in 22 tournaments over her four seasons and won the Findlay Invitational this spring (April 4) as the Bulldogs claimed the team title. Overall, Hetchler finished among the top 40 individual players in 11 of 12 tournaments during the 2011-12 campaign.

Meanwhile, DeBoer was among the top 15 performers in six tournaments this spring, including a third-place finish at the GLIAC Championships and a team-leading 12th place showing in the NCAA Division II East Super Regional.  She was among the top 20 golfers in nine tournaments during the 2011-12 season.

Finally, Rohdy also had a strong showing in 2011-12 as she posted five top-15 efforts and was in the top 25 at seven different events.  Her totals included a share of sixth place at the GLIAC Championships in addition to placing among the top 25 in six of her final seven outings of the campaign.

The Ferris State women's golf team made its 11th consecutive NCAA Division II Regional Tournament appearance this past season where they placed sixth at the 2012 NCAA-II East Super Regional (May 6-8) held in Findlay, Ohio.

The National Golf Coaches Association, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women's collegiate golf coaches. Today, the NGCA represents nearly 500 coaches throughout the U.S. and is dedicated to educating, promoting and recognizing both its members and the student-athletes they represent.
