Women's Golf Finishes Fourth At GVSU Fall Classic

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team wrapped up action in the 2012 Gilda's Club Laker Fall Classic hosted by Grand Valley State with a fourth-place team finish on Sunday (Sept. 30) in Allendale, Mich.

The Bulldogs carded a two-round total of 650 in the 14-team event held at GVSU's The Meadows Golf Course.  

Ashland won the team title with a score of 634 followed by California (Pa.) in second place (635) and Findlay in third (643).  

FSU shot a round of 330 in opening day action on Saturday (Sept. 29) and then came back with the second-best round of the day on Sunday with a 320 team score, which trailed only Ashland's 319 effort on the final day.

Bulldog junior Emily Rohdy placed tied for eighth individually in the field with a 161 total on rounds of 83 and 78, respectively.  Freshman Libby Berens was only a single stroke back in a tied for 11th place at 162 as she shot scores of 81 over each round.

Another freshman, Cooper Shawen, was a stroke behind Berens at 163, which was good for a share of 15th place.  She carded scores of 84 and 79.

Yet another stroke back was Bulldog senior Ashley Swanson, who tied for 18th overall with a 164 on scores of 82 each day.  Finally, junior Jacqueline DeBoer was also consistent as she carded an 84 in each round to place tied for 29th at 168 for the tournament.

The individual champion was California's Kim Thomas, who finished at 151 on rounds of 73 and 78 over the two days.  The top six in the individual standings were all one stroke apart from each other on the par 72 course measuring 6,041 yards.

FSU's Elizabeth Bauernfeind competed as an individual and tied for 36th overall at 171 with scores of 83 and 88.

Ferris State next hits the links on Sunday (Oct. 7) as the Bulldogs open play in the annual Findlay "Bing Beall" Classic in Findlay, Ohio.
