Women's Golf Opens Spring With Seventh-Place Tourney Finish

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team opened its spring action by taking part in the Perry Park Spring Fling Tournament held on Saturday (March 23) in Perry Park, Ky.

The Bulldogs carded a two-round total of 643 to finish seventh overall of 24 teams in the competitive field. The event was originally slated to be a two-day event, but was concluded after 36 holes on Saturday due to the impending weather forecast.

Action took part at the Whitetail/Buckskin course in Perry Park and was a par-72 measuring 5,834 yards.

Senior Emily Rohdy led the Bulldogs as she carded rounds of 79 and 78 to finish at 157 overall, which was good for a share of 16th place in the field.  The event was won by Abby Vorreyer of Illinois-Springfield with a two-round total of 149 on the day.

Cooper Shawen tied for 25th overall at 161 with scores of 84 and 77 while Ashley Swanson tied for 32d in the field at 162 on rounds of 80 and 82 on Saturday.

FSU's Libby Berens came in tied for 58th with a 167 that included scores of 88 and 79.  She was followed by Jacqueline DeBoer, who shared 63rd place with a 168 on identical rounds of 84.  Behind her was Liz Bauernfeind with a 170 as her totals of 83 and 87 over the two rounds tied for 69th in the field.

A total of 141 individual golfers were included in the event, which was won by Indianapolis with a 611 total on rounds of 307 and 304.  Findlay and Ashland both tied for second place with 628 scores.

Ferris State's 643 total included a first-round 327 effort followed by a 316 in the final round.

The Bulldogs are slated to be back in action on Monday (March 25) at the Bellarmine Spring Invitational in Louisville, KY.
