Women's Golf Eighth After First Round At NCAA-II East Super Regional

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team carded a 339 team score and presently ranks eighth overall after day one action on Sunday (May 5) at the 2013 NCAA East Super Regional Championships in Joliet, Ill.

The Bulldogs totaled a 51-over par team score at the Joliet Country Club on the par 72 course measuring 5,951 yards.  FSU is eighth of nine competing teams after the first of three rounds in the 54-hole event.

Nationally 22nd-ranked Indianapolis holds the first-day lead as the Greyhounds carded a 15-over par 303 team score.  Ashland came in second (325) with California (Pa.) listed third (327) and Findlay fourth (330).  Both Drury (Mo.) and Missouri-St. Louis are tied for fifth with 333 scores while Grand Valley State was one stroke in front of the Bulldogs with a 338 score and Southern Indiana placed ninth at 354 for the opening round.

FSU was led by Cooper Shawen's 83 in round one, which presently ranks tied for 19th individually.  She was followed by junior Emily Rohdy, who posted a 84 good for a share of 26th place.

Both Ashley Swanson and Libby Berens netted identical 86's in round one and are tied for 37th while Jacqueline DeBoer is a stroke back with an 87 for a share of 41st overall.

Indianapolis' Jaclyn Schindler carded the low individual round of the day with a 73 and is first overall following 18 holes of the regional event.

Lewis University is hosting the East Super Regional Tournament on the women's side with the participating teams playing a single round each day for a total of 54 holes.  Round two will take place Monday (May 6) with the final round on Tuesday (May 7).

Each women's golf super regional consists of both team and individual competition conducted concurrently with nine teams and four individuals from non-qualifying teams at each site. The top three teams along with the top three individuals not affiliated with a team from each super regional, will advance to the national championships. The 2013 NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships will be held May 15-18, at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Ferris State is guided by sixth-year head coach Mike Mignano and making its 12th consecutive national tournament appearance.
