Women's Golf Concludes NCAA East Regional In Seventh Place Overall

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team wrapped up action in the 2013 NCAA Division II East Regional Championships by moving up one place on Wednesday (May 8) in Joliet, Ill.

The Bulldogs posted a team-best 311 team score in the third and final round to finish at 986 overall, which was good for seventh place in the regional event after the conclusion of 54 holes on the par 72 course at the Joliet Country Club.  FSU climbed up a spot from eighth place following two rounds of action and posted the second-best overall team score of the final round with the 311 figure.

Indianapolis won the regional title with a 924 team score followed by Ashland (970) and California (Pa.) in third place with a 971 figure as the trio of teams advanced to the NCAA-II National Championships in Daytona Beach, Fla.  A total of only 16 strokes seperated the second thru seventh place teams in the final regional listing.

FSU was led by Libby Berens, who carded a 77 in the third and final round to finish at 240 for the tournament and earn a share of 15th place overall.

Berens was followed by Jacqueline DeBoer for the Bulldogs as she netted a 79 score in Tuesday's round to place tied for 25th in the field with a 247 total.

Behind DeBoer was Ashley Swanson in a share of 32nd place with a 251 total as she registered an 84 on day three.  She placed three strokes ahead of teammate Cooper Shawen, who was tied for 36th at 254 with an impressive final-day score of 74 in the event.

Finally, the Bulldogs' Emily Rohdy came back to place 49th overall with a 165 score after shooting an 81 on the third and final day of action.

Lewis University hosted the East Super Regional Tournament on the women's side with the participating teams playing a single round each day for a total of 54 holes.
 
Each women's golf super regional consisted of both team and individual competition conducted concurrently with nine teams and four individuals from non-qualifying teams at each site. The top three teams along with the top three individuals not affiliated with a team from each super regional advanced to the national championships. The 2013 NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships will be held May 15-18, at LPGA International in Daytona Beach.

Ferris State is guided by sixth-year head coach Mike Mignano and made its 12th consecutive national tournament appearance.
