Ferris State Women's Golf Captures Indianapolis Fall Invitational Championship

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team captured its first team championship of the 2013-14 campaign in only its second competition as the Bulldogs won the University of Indianapolis Fall Invitational, which wrapped up on Monday (Sept. 23).

The Bulldogs carded a 308 team score over Monday's final 18 holes of action to finish at 615 for the two-day event and three strokes ahead of the host Greyhounds and Arkansas Tech. FSU previously carded a 307 total and trailed UIndy by a single stroke heading into the final round on the par 72 course measuring 5,976 yards at Heartland Crossing Golf Links in Camby, Ind.

Sophomore Libby Berens and senior Emily Rohdy both earned all-tournament team accolades as each tied for eighth place in the event with a 153 total over the 36 holes of action.  Berens shot a first-round score of 75 on Sunday followed by a 78 on Monday while the scores were reversed for Rohdy as she fired a team-low 75 total in the final round.

Senior Ashley Swanson tied for 15th in the field at 155 on the strength of rounds of 78 and 77, respectively, over the two days of competition.  She was followed by senior Jacqueline (DeBoer) Mulder, who placed tied for 23rd at 158 with rounds of 76 and 82.

Finally, the Bulldogs' Elizabeth Bauernfeind came in tied for 29th as all five Bulldog golfers finished in the top 30 overall.  She carded an 81 on Sunday to go with a 78 on Monday for a two-round 159 total.

FSU's Kelsey McKinley also competed as an individual and wound up tied for 77th overall with a 173 score on rounds of 88 and 85 overall.

Behind the Bulldogs' title effort and the runner-up finishes by Indianapolis and Arkansas Tech were Findlay in fourth place (621) and Ashland in fifth (622) among the large field of 18 competing teams.

Individually, Ashland's Ali Green and Grand Valley State's Kelly Hartigan both tied for first at +5 before Green won the playoff as both parred 18 before Green bogied hole number one and Hartigan double bogied.

Ferris State will next take part in the Gilda's Club Laker Fall Invite, which will be hosted by Grand Valley State and played at The Meadows Golf Course in Allendale this Saturday (Sep. 28) and Sunday (Sep. 29).
