Ferris State Women's Golf Claims Runner-Up Honors At GVSU Invite

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team finished only a stroke away from winning a second-straight tournament championship as the Bulldogs earned runner-up honors as the 2013 Gilda's Club Laker Fall Invitational hosted by Grand Valley State on Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 28-29) in Allendale, Mich.

The Bulldogs carded a 628 team figure on rounds of 322 Saturday and 306 on Sunday to finish a single stroke behind champion and host GVSU, which claimed first place in the event with a 627 figure.  The Lakers shot a 318 in the opening round and followed with a 309 over the final holes of action in the 36-hole event on the par 72 course at The Meadows measuring 6,041 yards.

Ferris State was paced by Libby Berens, who placed second overall in the individual competition with a 154 total.  She shot a first-round score of 79 before closing the event with a 75 on Sunday.

Berens was followed in the FSU lineup by senior Jacqueline (DeBoer) Mulder, who netted a 156 final score on rounds of 80 and 76 over the two days of action.

Fellow senior Emily Rohdy posted a 160 total, which was good for 15th place individually.  She totaled a score of 83 in round one before coming back to card a 77 on the final day.

Right behind Rohdy was senior Ashley Swanson, who came in tied for 16th with a 162 figure on rounds of 84 and 78.  Finally, Elizabeth Bauemfiend totaled a 166 score on rounds of 80 and 86 to finish tied for 24th in the competitive field.

The University of Findlay came in third behind GVSU and FSU with a 632 team score followed by Asland (646) and Missouri-St. Louis (649) in the top five overall among the 13 competing teams.

Ferris State also had a pair of competitors compete as individuals with Kelsey McKinley placing tied for 29th at 168 and Jordan Duvall finishing tied for 37th at 173 overall.  McKinley shot rounds of 87 and 81, respectively, while Duvall posted a 92 before firing a 81 in the final round.

The top individual was Missouri-St. Louis' Taylor Hoag, who posted a 147 figure on rounds of 77 and 70 to win the event.

The Bulldogs will be back in action on Oct. 6-7 at the Ashland Invitational in Ashland, Ohio.
