Women's Golf Finishes Among Top Two For Third-Straight Tournament

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team had another strong showing as the Bulldogs finished second overall at the Ashland Eagle Invitational held on Sunday and Monday (Oct. 6-7) in Ashland, Ohio.

Ferris State shot a 319 figure in the opening round followed by a 320 total on day two to finish at 639 for the 36 holes of action.  Host Ashland carded a 631 total with an impressive round of 312 on the final day to capture the team championship.

The runner-up finish marked the third consecutive tournament in which the Bulldogs have placed either first or second this fall.

The Bulldogs finished six shots ahead of third-place finisher Grand Valley State (645) with California (Pa.) taking fourth (659) and Findlay fifth (660) in the 15-team tournament.

Senior Ashley Swanson led the Bulldogs as she shared second-place overall with a 156 total on identical rounds of 78 each day.

Meanwhile, senior Jacqueline (DeBoer) Mulder carded a 161 figure to share 11th place overall as she shot a 85 in round one followed by a 76 in the second round.

FSU's Libby Berens came in tied for 13th overall at 162 by posting an 81 score each day.
Next in line was senior Emily Rohdy, who tied for 17th in the field at 163 with a score of 78 on day one to go with a 85 in the second round.

Finally, Elizabeth Bauernfeind placed tied for 45th overall at 175 with an 82 on Sunday followed by a 93 on Monday.

Ferris State's Kelsey McKinley also competed as an individual and tied for sixth individually with a 159 total after carding an 81 the first day and shooting a 78 over the final 18 holes of action.

The individual winner was GVSU's Kelly Hartigan, who shot a 150 to finish six strokes ahead of Swanson and Ashland's Ali Green on the par 72 course measuring 5,856 yards.

The Bulldogs will host their own Ferris State Invitational this Saturday and Sunday (Oct. 12-13) at FSU's Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids.
