Ferris State Women's Golf Leads Field After Day One In Daytona Beach

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team officially began its spring season on Thursday (March 13) and leads the pack after the opening day of competition at the Southwest Minnesota State Spring Invitational being held in Daytona Beach, Fla.

The Bulldogs carded a 337 team score (+49) and lead the field of six teams by four strokes over second-place SMSU. The event is being held at the LPGA International Hills Legends Course, which is a par 72 measuring 5,820 yards.

The two-day event wraps up with final round action on Friday (March 14) in Daytona Beach. Along with FSU and SMSU, the field also includes Minnesota State, Winona State (Minn.), Harding (Ark.) and St. Mary's College (Ind.).

Ferris State was led by Libby Berens, who posted a 10-over par score of 82 in the first round. She trails leader Kenya Sethasompobe of Minnesota State by two strokes heading into the final round.

FSU's Jacqueline Mulder came in one stroke higher than Berens with an 83 (+11), which is presently tied for fourth overall in the field. Next in line was Elizabeth Bauernfeind with a +12 (84) figure that was good for a share of sixth place in the opening round.

Both Kelsey McKinley and senior Emily Rohdy shot scores of 87 (+15) to place tied for 14th overall in the field of 37 competitors. Finally, senior Ashley Swanson carded a 90 (+18), which was good for a tie for 18th overall. McKinley competed as an individual in the team competition.

Friday's final round begins at 8:30 a.m. (ET).
