FSU Women's Golf Earns Runner-Up Honors With Another Strong Showing

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team had another strong showing in the spring season as FSU took runner-up honors on Monday (March 24) in the Bellarmine Invitational held in Louisville, Ky.

Indianapolis carded a 315 score to edge the Bulldogs by only two strokes as FSU fired a 317 team score for the day. Grand Valley State and Southern Indiana both tied for third with 318 figures in the seven-team field.

The participants played only a single 18 holes of action in the one-round event at the Persimmon Ridge Golf Club. The tournament came on the heels of the 54-hole Perry Park Spring Fling in which FSU took third place of 23 schools over the weekend.

Unseasonably cold air made scoring difficult on Monday at the Arthur Hills designed course. A total of 48 individual participants were in the field and the event was won by Grand Valley State's Kelly Hartigan with an even-par round of 72.

The Bulldogs were led by Libby Berens, who tied for second overall in the field with a round of 76 on the day.

FSU's Ashley Swanson and Jacqueline Mulder both placed tied for 10th with scores of 80 while Elizabeth Bauernfeind tied for 17th with an 81 score.

Senior Emily Rohdy rounded out the Bulldog lineup with an 82 for the 18 holes of action.

In addtion, FSU's Kelsey McKinley competed as an individual and took 37th place with a score of 88 in the competition.

Ferris State returns to the links on March 30-31 at the NC4K College Classic in Blacklick, Ohio.
