Ferris State Women's Golf Third After Day One At GLIAC Championships

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf squad opened action in the 2014 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships in third place overall following the opening round on Friday (April 25) at the Winding Hollow Golf Club in New Albany, Ohio.

FSU carded a 336 over the initial 18 holes of action in the three-round, 54-hole event. Friday's action took place under wet, soggy and chilly conditions.

The Bulldogs' 336 team score on day one trailed only leader Grand Valley State's 323 figure along with second-place Findlay, which is four strokes ahead of Ferris State following a 332 score. A total of 10 schools are taking part in the league championships.

Individually, seniors Ashley Swanson and Jacqueline Mulder both shot an 81 to lead Ferris State on the par 72 course. They are currently tied for sixth overall in the field.

FSU's Kelsey McKinley is tied for 10th overall with a 82 score on Friday while senior Emily Rohdy carded a 92 and is tied for 31st in the field. Finally, FSU's Libby Berens is tied for 38th with a 96 in the first round.

GVSU's Kelly Hartigan posted a 77 for the first-day lead in the conference championships.

Action continues on Saturday (April 26) with tee times starting at 8 a.m. (ET). The final round of action will be contested on Sunday (April 27).
