Four Ferris State Women's Golfers Chosen As All-America Scholars

Big Rapids, Mich. - Four Ferris State University women's golfers have been named to the 2014 Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-America Scholar Team.
Seniors Ashley Swanson (Flushing/Flint Powers Catholic Central), Jacqueline Mulder (Byron Center) and Emily Rohdy (Farwell) along with freshman Kelsey McKinley (Muskegon/Mona Shores) were recently named by the national coaches organization. The WGCA All-America Scholar Teams for Division I, II & III were announced with a total of 664 women's collegiate golfers recognized with this prestigious honor.
The criteria for selection to the All-America Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50 over their entire collegiate career and student-athletes must have completed in at least 66 percent of their team's regularly-scheduled competitive rounds during the respective season. They must also be of high moral character and in good academic standing.
Both Mulder and Rohdy earned the prestigious distinction for the fourth consecutive year.
In addition to their success as All-America Scholars, all four individuals also had extremely production campaigns for the Bulldogs. Swanson was chosen as an All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) First-Team pick this year with Mulder earning second-team status and McKinley claimed honorable mention laurels. Rohdy was also a regular in the Bulldog lineup and finished her career as a three-time All-GLIAC recipient.
The Bulldogs, under seventh-year head coach Mike Mignano, made their 13th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance in women's golf this season. FSU placed fourth overall in the 2014 NCAA East Super Regional in early May and narrowly missed advancing to the NCAA-II National Championships.
The Bulldogs' top four finish at the regional championships marked the eighth time in as many tournaments this spring in which Ferris State finished among the top four teams, including a runner-up showing in the 2014 GLIAC Championships prior to the NCAA East Regional. FSU's fourth place overall finish in the regional competition marked its best showing since last advancing to the national championships in 2009.
FSU's senior contingent of Swanson, Mulder and Rohdy wrapped up their Bulldog careers by leading Ferris State to four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances.
The Women's Golf Coaches Association, formerly known as the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA), began in 1983 as an organization to promote participation in women's collegiate golf. The vision of the WGCA since its inception has been to encourage the playing of intercollegiate golf for women in correlation with a general objective of education and in accordance with the highest tradition of intercollegiate competition.
The WGCA instills within coaches of women's golf a deeper sense of responsibility for the promotion, development, maintenance and conduct of competitive golf for women. Today, the WGCA represents the finest coaches in women's golf with a membership of over 550 coaches of Division I, II & III, NAIA and NJCAA collegiate programs.
