Women's Golf Places 14th In Division I Field At MSU Mary Fossum Invitational

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team started its 2014-15 campaign off with a 14th-place finish in a largely NCAA Division I field at the Mary Fossum Invitational hosted by Michigan State University on Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 13-14) in East Lansing.

The Bulldogs carded a three-round score of 1,030 overall (+166) in the 15-field field at Forest Akers West Golf Course while finishing ahead of Division I member Central Michigan by 15 strokes. FSU carded a 344 in round one and a 339 in the second round Saturday before coming back with a round of 347 on Sunday.

Ferris State was paced by junior Elizabeth Bauernfeind, who placed 71st in the field with a total of 251 for the tournament. She shot rounds of 78, 85 and 88 over the three rounds, respectively, in leading the Bulldogs.

Behind Bauernfeind was junior Libby Berens in 72nd place with a 54-hole total of 253 overall. Her rounds consisted of 88, 79 and 86 to finish at +37 for the three rounds of action on the par 72 course measuring 6,334 total yards.

Sophomore Kelsey McKinley shot a 263 total for 81st place with scores of 86, 88 and 89 over the two days of action. Next up was sophomore Claire Jansa in 83rd place with a 266 figure on rounds of 95, 87 and 84 in the event.

Finally, sophomore Jordan Duvall was only a single place back in 84th place with a 269 score as she shot a 92 followed by rounds of 88 and 89 over the final 36 holes.

In addition to Ferris State, the field consisted of such schools as Notre Dame, Michigan State, Michigan, Houston, Toledo, Iowa, Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Oakland, Ohio, CMU, East Tennessee State and Florida International. Besides FSU, the lone other non-Division I school in the draw was rival Grand Valley State.

The Bulldogs are next back in action in an event hosted by the University of Indianapolis on Sunday and Monday, Sept. 21-22, in Madison, Ind.
