Ferris State Women's Golf Ties For 12th In Strong Field At NCAA Division II National Preview

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team finished tied for 12th over the weekend in the NCAA Division II National Preview held at The Meadows Golf Course on the Grand Valley State campus in Allendale.

FSU shot a two-round 683 team score in the event, which included a total of 26 teams and included several ranked teams in the large field.

Ferris State shot a 342 team figure in Saturday's (Sept. 27) opening round before coming back with a 341 on Sunday (Sept. 28) to wrap up the 36-hole event played on the par 72 course measuring 6,111 yards.

Elizabeth Bauernfeind led the Bulldogs as she placed 12th individually in the draw. She posted an impressive one-over par 73 to share the lead in the first round before carding a 84 in round two to finish at 157 for the event played under mostly sunny skies and warm temperatures.

Behind her was Libby Berens in a share of 40th place with a 167 score on rounds of 84 and 83 over the two days, respectively. Teammate Jordan Duvall placed tied for 86th at 180 as she totaled a 90 in the first round before firing a 87 in round two.

FSU's Claire Jansa placed tied for 93rd as she was only two shots behind Duvall at 182 for the tournament. Jansa shot 92 and 90 in rounds one and two, respectively.

Finally, sophomore Kelsey McKinley rounded out the Bulldogs' five-player lineup with a 185 total, which was good for a share of 100th place overall. She posted a 98 in round one, but was 11 strokes better in the final round while posting a 87 on Sunday.

More than 130 golfers took part in the tournament. Florida Tech won a playoff over host Grand Valley State as both teams tied for first in the field by carding scores of 626 overall. Four-time defending national champion Nova Southeastern placed third (634) followed by Ashland (635) and Lynn (Fla.) in fifth (640) as only 14 strokes seperated the top five teams in the draw.

Ferris State is next slated to take part in a tournament hosted by Malone University on Oct. 18-19 to conclude the fall portion of the 2014-15 season in Massillon, Ohio.
